The general public final noticed the LS Lowry portray 57 years in the past
LS Lowry’s portray Sunday Afternoon has bought at public sale for nearly £6.3m.
The work, which had not been publicly exhibited since 1977, was anticipated to fetch £4m-£6m at Christie’s Trendy British And Irish Artwork sale.
It was final bought in 1967, realising a file value for the artist, and was supplied from the gathering of Sir Keith and Girl Showering.

It’s the second highest value achieved for Lowry at public sale, after his 1953 portray Going To The Match bought at Christie’s in October 2022 for £7,846,500.

The portray was obtained from the gathering of Sir Keith Showering, a former chief government of Europe’s greatest drinks enterprise, Allied Breweries.

Born Laurence Stephen Lowry in 1887, the artist depicted industrial life in Better Manchester and produced greater than 1,000 artworks throughout his lifetime.
