Featuring Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles, Jee Le Zaraa is co-written by Zoya Akhtar, Farhan Akhtar, and Reema Kagti, with Farhan taking on the role of director as well.
The Internet and social media were taken by storm when Zoya Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar made an announcement in 2021 about their upcoming project, Jee Le Zaraa, featuring Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Katrina Kaif, and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles. Said to be a road movie, Jee Le Zaraa is co-written by Zoya Akhtar, Farhan Akhtar, and Reema Kagti, with Farhan taking on the role of director as well.
Since the announcement, movie enthusiasts have eagerly awaited any updates about the film. At one point, there were rumours that both Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif had backed out of the project, but the makers quickly clarified and put an end to all speculations.
Now, Zoya Akhtar herself has recently provided an update about the highly anticipated movie, adding to the thrill and anticipation among cinephiles. Denying the reports of the project being cancelled, she clarified to IndiaToday.in that they are in fact awaiting the actors’ schedules. “We are just waiting for the dates [of the actors],” she said.

Earlier this year, writer Reema Kagti, who gained fame for penning movies like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Talaash, Dil Dhadakne Do, and Gully Boy, informed Indianexpress.com that the project was still very much alive. “We will start shooting by the end of the year. We are looking forward to it and are really excited,” she added.
Priyanka had told Bollywood Hungama last year that she had no idea when the movie would actually enter production, but noted, “I am shooting a movie with my friends, and when you do that, it’s just not work, it’s creative fun. Hopefully we shoot it next year.” This would mark her first Hindi film since 2016’s Jai Gangaajal, after which she switched base to the US and appeared in a string of American projects. Jee Le Zaraa would also mark Farhan’s first film as director since 2011’s Don 2.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar earlier this year, Alia praised her Jee Le Zaraa co-stars and said: “I think that Priyanka, me and Katrina are already doing roles that are sparking new conversations. We’re doing more female friendship films. We don’t see much of that. Girls’ trips, girls just being friends and not fighting over stupid things. I’m quite excited about that. We realised [how important it was] when we announced it and the response we were met with was so positive.”
