In a current interview with Heavy Consequence, Shannon Larkin spoke about his early days as a member of GODSMACK and mirrored on the second when he realized he had “made it.” The drummer stated (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “My story would take endlessly to inform, however I went by a whole lot of bands on main labels even, and by the point Sully [Erna, GODSMACK frontman] known as me and gave me this reward of GODSMACK, I had already written off rock and roll as one thing I might achieve success at. I had already accomplished what I felt was success by that time. I simply by no means actually attained any sort of enterprise success so far as promoting data, enjoying these enormous concert events, being in a band that sells… I acquired a gold file. In reality, I wasn’t gonna get a gold file as a result of our, our first file with me was ‘Faceless’. It was our first No. 1. And it got here out and bought 250,000 copies in like per week. And so I went to Sully and I stated, ‘Oh my God. I am gonna get my first gold file.’ And he stated, ‘No, you are not gonna get a gold file. It is going platinum. And these items value cash. So we’ll simply get platinum.’ And I stated, ‘Properly, no. I need a gold file.’ And he stated, ‘Properly, no. Platinum is healthier. It is extra. It is 1,000,000.’ And I stated, ‘Yeah, however the old-school [way of doing is to have] an workplace [with] gold data on the wall and all that.’ And he stated, ‘Properly, it is simply not the best way the enterprise works.’ And I stated, ‘Oh, okay, I suppose.'”
He continued: “So we get to Europe and we’re opening for METALLICA on ‘Madly In Anger With The World’ tour, man. It was a giant tour, and it is METALLICA — idols of ours, clearly. And it was my birthday, April twenty fourth, and [Sully] blindfolded me. He stated, ‘Simply belief me. I am not gonna do something loopy.’ He blindfolded me. So he takes me into this room. He takes the blindfold off and walks over there and it is him, Tony [Rombola, guitar], Robbie [Merrill, bass] and all 4 [members] of METALLICA with this gold file that he had special-made for me. It is the one one, the body and all the things, and so I acquired a gold file. So, clearly, that was the peak of my ‘making it’ second, like, ‘Oh my God. I made it. I am a rock star.'”
GODSMACK will embark on the “Vibez Tour” in early 2024. The trek will see Erna and his bandmates ship a sequence of intimate evenings that includes acoustic/electrical performances and untold tales in theatres throughout North America. The primary leg is scheduled to start on February 15 in Catoosa, Oklahoma, whereas the second leg will kick off April 9 in Valley Heart, California.
GODSMACK kicked off its 2023 U.S. tour on Might 4 on the 107.9 KBPI Birthday Bash at Fiddler’s Inexperienced Amphitheatre in Denver, Colorado.
GODSMACK‘s eighth studio album, “Lighting Up The Sky” was launched in February by way of BMG. The LP was co-produced by Erna and Andrew “Mudrock” Murdock (AVENGED SEVENFOLD, ALICE COOPER).
The primary single from “Lighting Up The Sky”, “Give up”, which arrived in September 2022, marked the primary launch from GODSMACK in 4 years, following their globally acclaimed and gold-certified 2018 album “When Legends Rise”, which earned the Erna-fronted outfit a No. 1 spot throughout U.S. Onerous Rock, Rock, and Different album charts.
